A WOMAN who can remember when Zeppelin airships flew over north Wales has celebrated her 100th birthday.
Sarah Pospiech was born in Holyhead on April 30, 1908 and was orphaned by the age of 14.
Mrs Pospiech moved to The Cottage Nursing Home in Mold in 2000.
She worked on a sweet stall at Holyhead Market and it is believed this is where she gets her sweet tooth from according to staff at the care home, who said Mrs Pospiech has vividly recalled Germany's wartime incursions into the region's skies.
In wartime she moved to Chester where she met and married her husband George in 1948.
Mr Pospiech came to Britain from France after the war, but died in 1950.
Mrs Pospiech worked on refreshments for British Rail, based on the line between Holyhead and Crewe.
She lived with her brother and sister in law until the 1990s and has a son, Glyn, and granddaughter Andrea.
