Little confident Wrexham can survive

BRIAN LITTLE today issued a rallying call and insisted that Wrexham's bid to avoid relegation is far from over.
Rock bottom Wrexham's hopes of avoiding the drop took a huge blow on Monday when they were held to a 0-0 draw against fellow strugglers Dagenham and Redbridge at The Racecourse.

The stalemate came on the back of a 2-0 defeat at Brentford 48 hours earlier and leaves Wrexham seven points away from safety.

But Reds' boss Little said the fight to pull clear is still very much alive.

"The fight is still on – no-one is giving up," said Little today. "People can discount us around the country but we will continue trying, and working hard.

"I ask people to stick with us and hopefully we will come through. The spirit and effort has been fantastic and we have to keep going,
"All I can guarantee is that I am trying my best, and I hope the players are."

Wrexham have only been out of the drop zone once the end of October – when they beat Bury on December 4, and they have been unable to overhaul their relegation rivals with the likes of Macclesfield and even Mansfield picking up their share of points but Little still hopes they can pull clear.

"We have always been chasing from behind and it has taken its toll from time to time," said Little.

"But we have been very competitive since January and have emerged with more than a point a game.

"Quite a few teams have not but although the teams around us have managed to lose, they have won a few more. That has been the decisive but we have not given up hope."

Although Wrexham failed to record a much needed win against Dagenham after creating a succession of scoring chances, Little was pleased with the commitment shown by his players.

"Since I have been here at least the fans can say we have tried, and I make sure that is always the case," said Little. "There have been a few deficiencies but the effort has been there.

"I could not believe we did not win on Monday. I think we had 20-odd efforts on goal and it is a long time since a team had that many clear cut chances and have not won.

"You can't criticise the players for having a go."

Although refusing to rule out adding to the squad before tonight's transfer deadline, Little has so far failed to bring in a loan signing.

"It is very difficult to bring in someone that would improve us. I would like to but it is hard to attract people when you are bottom," added Little.

- Wrexham reserves secured a 3-0 victory at Accrington Stanley reserves last night.
Josh Johnson opened the Reds account in the 23rd minute, before Silvio Spann doubled Wrexham's advantage from a deflected 18-yard free kick.

And Spann wrapped up the points in spectacular fashion in the 61st minute when he found the target with a 45-yard shot.
